Water Damage Categories

According to the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), indoor temperatures should range between 68° - 74°F in the winter and 73° - 79°F in the summer.

Indoor humidity should range between 30% and 60%.  Humidity above 65% increases conditions that lead to mold growth.

Thermometers are used to measure temperature and hygrometers are used to measure humidity.  They range in price from $10 - $100 and can be purchased at local home improvement centers.

Helpful hints to reduce humidity and prevent condensation:

Increase ventilation.

Increase air flow (fans).

Increase indoor temperature.

Open windows and doors (when low humidity exists).

Maintain HVAC system and appliances.

Do not run thermostat fans in ON position.

When bathrooms are in use, use exhaust fans.

Slope landscaping away from exterior walls.
